Our culture
Where complex water science meets effective corporate strategy backed by expert water consultants.
Our beginning
Bluerisk was founded in 2019 by Paul Reig, after he spent nine years at the World Resources Institute (WRI). While there, Paul led the development of the Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas and Volumetric Water Benefit Accounting method, two of the most widely used open-source resources for corporate water management.
During his time at WRI, Paul worked with many other experts around the world. Some of them shared his passion for developing robust, yet practical, solutions to address emerging water challenges, tailored to the unique needs of the private sector. Building on more than a decade of experience, and joined by a common vision, they came together to form what is now Bluerisk.
Our core values
We have four core values that define our culture, inform our decisions, guide our work, and are foundational to our success and impact in the world:
Courage to lead
Doing what is right, focusing on the things that matter most, and embracing innovation and outside-the-box thinking
Extreme ownership
Taking responsibility, delivering on our commitments, and continuing to deepen our subject-matter expertise
Personable
Listening first, being approachable, affirming and positive, and building trust through meaningful relationships
Win-win-win
Driving superior business results for our clients who have a positive impact on society while creating value for Bluerisk
Our team culture
Our team culture shapes how we think, act, and relate to one another; it defines who we are and how we work at Bluerisk. To strengthen our culture, we are committed to the following.
Blue adventures
We purposefully carve out time for shared outdoor experiences because we believe time spent in nature is fun, contributes to employee wellbeing, and strengthens our connection to the communities and environments we serve.
Blue giving
Every employee aspires to dedicate at least a few days each year to volunteer in their community in support of a cause that matters personally to them. By giving our time to others, we strengthen our connection to the communities we live in and contribute to the places we call home.
Annual team retreats
Spending time together strengthens our company culture like nothing else. It’s very fun, and worth every bit of the time and effort required to gather a globally distributed team. Because of that, the entire team gathers at least once a year, and takes advantage of any other opportunity to spend time together.

Bluerisk FAQs
How is Bluerisk different from other sustainability consultancies?
Bluerisk is one of only a few firms that focuses exclusively on addressing water risk and building resilience in the private sector. There are many firms that focus on a wide range of environmental issues, including water, but very few focus only on water. Our team includes some of the most seasoned professionals in corporate water management and stewardship, including those that launched the first corporate water replenishment program, built the Aqueduct Water Atlas, developed the ICMM Water Stewardship Maturity Framework, and authored Volumetric Water Benefit Accounting.
What makes Bluerisk corporate water management specialists versus water generalists?
We understand hydrology, watershed dynamics, and water policy as well as corporate strategy, the realities of business, and cost-benefit analysis. We've been in the field measuring stream flows and in boardrooms presenting to CEOs. We've advised 50+ of the world's largest companies on water, served on technical advisory groups for ICMM, CDP, CDSB, SBTN and the CEO Water Mandate, and helped shape the corporate water stewardship industry into what it is today.
What industries do you work with?
Agriculture, food, beverage, information technology, metals and mining, financial services, water solution providers, and any sector where water is financially material to operations or supply chains. We've worked with companies from BHP to Microsoft, Coca-Cola to Salesforce.
Do you work globally, or only in certain regions?
We work globally. Our team spans four continents with experience across North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. We have in-country experience working in the USA, China, Australia, Mexico, Singapore, and Spain.
